Blog Goals – August 2017

Blog goals SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time-bound) goal setting concept presented on blackboard with colorful crumpled sticky notes and white chalk handwriting

Setting blogging goals is something I have wanted to do for a while. It is scary to put out in public my backlogs and failures, but as a new blogger, I am learning a lot by making mistakes and rectifying them. This might be helpful for me to keep a track on my progress as well as to other bloggers who are trying to make it big like me.

I am a goal oriented person and I strongly believe if I set targets, I will be more driven to accomplish what I need to achieve. This will also help me keep a track of my failures and learn from them.

Progress till now – A Recap

I had started from wordpress.com. My site went live in January 2017. I was doing pretty ok driving traffic to my page. The best I did was in the month of April where I could reach nearly 3800 views. But soon I realized if I needed to be in the blogging business, I will need to migrate to wordpress.org. Hence my site was migrated and reborn on 7th May 2017.

Till now my journey has been pretty ok for a new blogger. I am still struggling to bring traffic to my page and I can do much better on that front. The month of July has been a memorable month of my life as I got engaged. But that took a toll on my blog as I could not promote it much on social media.

Also from last 2 months, I could not concentrate on writing much with everything going on so I need to focus on increasing number of published posts from this month. Before going further just an overview of articles I have published till date.

August Blog Goals: A Look Forward

BLOG-GOALS

When I started blogging, I thought it was just writing and publishing. With time and experience, I realized there is much more to it. Apart from writing, promoting on social media and SEO is a time-consuming task. In fact, I would say it needs to be 20% writing and 80% promoting.

Few of my immediate goals would be:

1. Increase the frequency of publishing post:

I need to publish at least 2 times a week. 3 times a week is ideal, but with promotions it becomes difficult. Lemme start publishing twice a month, then later months I will increase the frequency further.

2. Improve SEO of 5 existing posts:

When I started blogging, I hardly knew anything about SEO. Now I have read a lot and learned a lot about it and I am still learning. I do the required SEO of the new topics I write, but the old posts need improvement in terms of SEO. Out of 25 published articles, I will improve SEO of 5 posts.

3. Verify if all images have proper copyrights:

Copyright laws are quite strict and when I started blogging I was not very sure of the source of images. To my knowledge, I have used stock photos with proper usage rights, but just to be sure of it, I have decided to recheck all images I have used. I will check these for 5 blog posts this month.

4. Optimizing images:

I have recently learnt about image compression and that improves the page load speed. I will optimize images for 5 of my old blog posts.

5. Improve traffic:

I have reached nearly 4000 views in the month of April which was the best month when it accounts for traffic on the page. I need to focus on driving more traffic this month. I aim for 5000 views at least.

6. Engagement in Social Media threads:

I need to be more active on social media and engage in a number of follow threads. Also, I will promote my posts more frequent on social media. That would be at least twice a week.

7. Engaging with followers:

I need to reply to the comments by followers on articles. It is time-consuming but they need to feel related to me and as they are kind enough to take the time to comment on my topics, I need to engage with them more.

8. Social Media Goals:

What social media pages are you utilizing to grow your views that quickly? These are amazing goals. Also, do you have a place where you would suggest has the best info. on SEO? Is it absolutely necessary to flip over to .org? When I’m taking with the .com people they have made it sound like staying on .com is best? TIA! 🙂

Do you plan on monetizing your page? If so make sure you are on .org as I started off with .com and I was stuck as there were very few things I could do with it. If you have any queries regarding this lemme know. I know when I was blank, my fellow bloggers helped me. I would like to do the same. Also regarding social media, I have joined many Facebook groups to promote. You could do that too. Join in many fellow threads.

Thanks a lot for showing your goals, I recently migrated from Blogger to WordPress with fears of losing views etc. However, it hasn’t been bad at all and I realise that I need to set goals to grow my blog.
